[3-4] The Concentration sub-camp Echterdingen-Bernhausen
This sub-camp of the Concentration Camp Natzweiler in Elsass was based at Stuttgart Airport from November 1944 until January 1945. The 600 Jews from 17 countries were used as slave labour at the airport and near by quarries. The present day 'Hanger 13' was used as a barrack. At least 119 prisoners were victims of Nazi violence and died through hunger and illness. In 2005, on the airfield, a mass grave containing 34 victims was discovered. A further 85 are buried in the Ebershalden Cemetery in Esslingen.
