What to do today

[4-5] This installation was erected directly in front of the gallery on the occasion of the exhibition at the Ute Brummel Gallery in Dortmund. A 80 cm square area of the pavement was coated in gold leaf (23.75ct).

The local environment is influenced by 70s architecture, it is more coincidental as planned. The gold area is in contrast not very large. None the less its reflections and aura creates a new spatial impression and how one views the surrounding architecture is also altered.

Outside, golden surfaces are normally long lasting, but not contact robust. The process of the slow degeneration and disappearance is therefore, an integral part of the piece. From the moment of its application, the gold is carried away, worn down, distributed... The gold coating of the pavement acts as a counter weight to the contrary concept of gold as a medium of worthiness and longevity. The piece therefore, reflects society's own value discussion.
